5 ways to make parenting a calm and fun experience

Oct 20, 2022

Parenting can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life, but it can also be challenging. Feeling like you have to do it all can lead to overwhelm. And when you’re overwhelmed, the first thing that disappears is you having time to yourself, having fun, or being able to be a calm parent.

But it doesn't have to be that way! Here are 5 calm parenting tips to reduce overwhelm and have more fun with your kids. So that you can feel like a more fun and calm parent again.

1. Give yourself some time each day to do something that you enjoy

Whether it's reading, taking a stroll around the block, meeting friends or listening to music, taking some time for yourself will help you relax and re-energise. You'll be a better parent if you're well-rested and happy, so don't feel guilty about taking some time for yourself.

2. Get involved in your child's interests and activities

This will not only make them happy, but it will also give you some quality time together. Not to mention, seeing the things that interest them will open a whole new world for you (to be honest I never realised how interesting snails were, or what happens to their shells when they grow!)

3. Make sure to schedule some fun into your week!

Think of activities that are fun for you, as well as fun for your kids. Go out for ice cream, have a picnic in the park, or build a fort in the living room. Just because you're a parent doesn't mean you can't have fun too!

4. Get outside and get moving

Fresh air and exercise are great for both your body and your mind, so make sure you carve out some time every day to get out of the house. Not only will you get some much-needed vitamin D, but you'll also get to burn off some energy so you can be more patient with your kiddos when you're back indoors. Not to mention, when your kids have been outside for a while and let off some steam, they’ll be somewhat calmer indoors too!

5. Be present in the moment

It's so easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget to truly connect with our children. But those little moments—when we're reading stories together or building towers out of blocks—are important for both them and us. So block off time where you can put away your phone, ignore those emails, or put down whatever else it is you feel you HAVE to be doing without feeling guilty. And focus on enjoying some quality time with your little ones. They'll love it! And when you block off time to be with them, and block off time to do chores or work, you’ll only have to focus on one thing at once, and feel less overwhelmed.

Parenting is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have in life, but it's also no secret that it can be tough at times. That's why it's important to find ways to make parenting more fun whenever possible! By following these tips you can help make parenting a more calm and enjoyable experience for both you and your child.
